The summer just wouldn’t be the summer without The Sandy Hook Foundation’s Free Beach Concert Series.  Each summer thousands of people young and old come out to enjoy free live entertainment on the beach at sunset.

Dancers of all ages enjoy the shows

Tim McLoone and The Shirleys

Concert-goers bring beach chairs and pack a picnic dinner so that they can listen, dance and sing to the music of Jersey Shore acts like Tim McLoone and The Shirleys, The Quincy Mumford Band, and Brian Kirk and the Jirks.

The 2011 Annual End of Summer Party

was held Friday, September 9.

Co-Chairs Ellen and Rich Phillips, Laurie and Paul Bratone, Suzanne and Jim Lizotte

Despite the rainy forecast and the annual party changing locations to the bayside area adjacent to the historic Post Chapel, over 400 guests showed up to say good-bye to summer, and celebrate with great food and friends.

Fine fare from the Lusty Lobster, the Salt Creek Grille, Bahrs Restaurant and Marina, the Flaky Tart, Merri-Makers Catering, and What's Your Pleasure Catering, flowered from Sands Beach Club, and a chance auction featuring wares from the area’s preeminent merchants and local artists, and dancing to the fabulous band High Road, all made the night a success.

Party guests the Smiths, Foundation President Betsy Barrett, Robin Fitzmaurice from Two River Community Bank

Proceeds from the End of Summer Party support projects of the National Park Service at Sandy Hook, including maintaining the historic Lighthouse Keepers Quarters.

Brian Kirk and The Jirks got the crowd moving

Other projects that the Foundation supports are the free summer beach concerts, shore bird protection, beach wheelchairs, non-native plant removal, the oral history project (in conjunction with Monmouth University), and more.
